Privacy as a Sacred Trust

1. The Devotio App

The Devotio app is built on a Zero-Footprint Architecture. We believe that your prayers and petitions are sacred.

  • No Accounts: You are never asked to create a profile or provide an email to use the app.

  • Local Storage: Your Intentions Diptych, prayer journal, and devotional history are stored locally on your device. We have no cloud servers and no way to access this information.

  • No Tracking: We do not use analytics or third-party trackers inside the prayer experience. We are architecturally incapable of seeing what you pray about.

2. External Services

To provide a full liturgical experience, the app connects to specific trusted services:

  • Daily Readings: We connect to Universalis to provide regional Mass readings. This requires a temporary check of your general location to provide the correct liturgical calendar, but this data is never stored or associated with an identity.

  • App Stores: Downloads are managed by the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, which may collect their own standard installation metrics according to their respective policies.

3. The Website and Newsletter

While the app is a closed sanctuary, our website and newsletter function differently:

  • Mailchimp: If you voluntarily sign up for our newsletter, your email address is stored securely via Mailchimp. This is used solely for sending apostolate updates and reflections. You can unsubscribe at any time.

  • Cookies: As a Squarespace site, we use functional cookies to ensure the website runs smoothly. We do not sell your data to third parties.

4. Our Commitment

As a non-commercial apostolate, our goal is to provide a tool that honours the tradition of the Church. We will never monetise your data or introduce advertising into your prayer space.

5. Your Data Rights (GDPR & International Compliance)

We respect the privacy rights of all our users, including those in the EU, UK, and beyond. Even though the Devotio app stores no personal data on our servers, you have specific rights regarding the information you provide via our website or newsletter:

  • Right to Access and Portability: You can request a copy of the email data we hold about you via Mailchimp.

  • Right to Rectification: You can update your newsletter preferences at any time.

  • Right to Erasure ("The Right to be Forgotten"): You can unsubscribe from our updates or request that we completely delete your email from our records.

  • Data Controller: For the purposes of these rights, the "Data Controller" is the Devotio Apostolate.

  • International Transfers: By signing up for our newsletter, you acknowledge that your email address is stored on Mailchimp’s secure servers in the United States.

6. Children’s Privacy

Devotio is a tool for all ages to grow in faith. However, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 16 through our website or newsletter. We encourage parents to engage in the prayer experience with their children.

7. Data Controller & Legal Information

The Data Controller for the Devotio website and newsletter is DEVOTIO PRAYER LTD.

  • Company Number: 17037305

  • Registered Office Address: 71-75, Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, United Kingdom, WC2H 9JQ

  • Contact: contact@devotioprayerapp.com

Note: While Devotio Prayer Ltd is the legal entity for this apostolate, the Devotio app itself remains a zero-footprint sanctuary. It is architecturally incapable of transmitting personal prayer data to our servers.
